Team Serenity win the water bike challenge
On Sunday 13th September the YPI team joined the group of supporters at the Yacht Club de Monaco to witness the finish of Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation’s Calvi to Monaco Water Bike Challenge. After a staggering 22 hours and 33 minutes of team effort, HSH Princess Charlene and her Team ‘Serenity’ were victorious. It came down to the wire though! Team Notorious, led by Gareth Wittstock, Secretary General of the Foundation, crossed the finish line just 14 minutes later.
The race, which started on Saturday 12th September was a truly unique challenge and a feat of endurance and teamwork, and YPI was proud to be a sponsor. The two teams of internationally renowned athletes including Kevin Crovetto, Gareth Wittstock, and Princess Charlene herself took it in turns at sea for nearly 24 hours over a distance of 180km before crossing the finish line at the Yacht Club de Monaco.
As well as being fantastically exciting to watch and a celebration of the values of sport cherished by H.S.H. Princess Charlene, the purpose of the challenge was to draw attention to the Foundation’s valuable work around the world. The "Learn to swim, for learning to swim" and "Water Safety, for the prevention of drowning" programs are aimed at disadvantaged children and those at risk of drowning because of their environment. Since the creation of the Foundation in 2012, more than 730,000 people have benefited from its programmes across 34 countries. This race will continue to raise awareness and drive support for the Foundation.
As fellow residents of Monaco, the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation is close to the YPI’s teams’ hearts. YPI is a business based around an appreciation and love of the ocean, and, as such, wholeheartedly supports HSH Princess Charlene’s efforts to raise awareness for water safety.
We’ll look forward to hearing what the Foundation has in store next.
