Three sales in two weeks & a very busy Monaco...

In the last two weeks no less than three YPI yachts have been sold including one of the LIMITED EDITION AMELS 177 series: HULL 458. The 20th Monaco Yacht Show was one of the busiest on record for the Group and our Super Yacht Owners Summit was the best attended yet.

September is always a busy month in yachting for the industry and clients alike. The Cannes and Monaco Yacht Shows both take place amidst much hype and expectation and this year saw one of the busiest Monaco Shows on record.

Monaco Yacht Show 2010

“It is much too early to gauge whether or not YPI yachts will sell as a result of either of the Shows,” explains YPI Group CEO Bertrand Vogèle. “But there is no doubt that our yachts enjoyed some excellent visits from clients and guests who it would seem are genuinely in the market to do business.”

And whilst it may have had little to do with either of the Shows, it seems some other clients were also keen to do some business as no less than three YPI yachts have now been sold in the last two weeks. The first was the beautiful new-build, one of the AMELS Limited Edition 177 Series, Hull 458. An in-house sale with Mike Rich acting for the buyer and Will Allen for the seller, the 54-metre yacht, due for delivery in Spring 2011 didn’t stay on YPI books for very long – in fact less than three months. “You can’t hide quality,” explains Will Allen.

“It is quality and value that counts in today’s marketplace. We knew when we signed HULL 458 we would bring some important enquiries…and we did. In the end it really was a case of who wanted it most.”

The next two yacht sales, confirmed just days later, were both Joint Central Agencies held with our long-standing American friends Northrop & Johnson. The second sale, handled by YPI Sales & New Construction Broker Matt Albert, was another AMELS, MONTE CARLO, built in 1988 and still fresh from a stunning multimillion dollar refit in 2006. The third, held by Head of YPI Sailing, William Bishop, was the Tréhard-built, 32-metre sloop, KALIKOBASS II.

“We have to work harder to get the best for our clients who want to sell in the market today,” says Bertrand Vogèle. “But good product is selling and for fair prices. Our goal as a Group, is to ensure we maintain the high quality of the fleet that we have to offer today.”

Superyacht Owner Summit

This year also saw the YPI Group host the second invitation-only Super Yacht Owners Summit in association with The Yacht Report Group. The event, held at the Monte Carlo Bay Hotel, was very well attended by yacht owners and their representatives and under the theme “Putting Owners Back In Control: Making Your Voice Heard” covered an array of important topics including the looming impact of the Maritime Labour Convention 2006 and taxation. “This is becoming a must-attend yacht event for us now,” commented one owner. “It is so important to not only hear what other owners think of what is happening to yachting today but also what the panel of industry professionals are thinking and doing about it.”

This year’s panel included the Heads and Directors of some very important and influential industry bodies – all of whom had the chance to listen to and interact with a room filled with owners who, for once, could say what they felt without fear of repercussion or being quoted.

As one panellist said, “getting yacht owners together in one place at one time is no mean feat…this is quite some achievement.” To find out more about the next Super Yacht Owners Summit please email: mark.duncan@ypigroup.com or go to www.superyachtowners.com
