New joint venture. New staff. A new era in yachting.

The first quarter of 2011 has seen almost double the number of superyachts sold than the same period in 2009. This time, the market grabbing everyone’s attention is…China and it’s a market where YPI is now very much at the forefront.

YPI Asia is the new joint venture, created by YPI and Olivier Besson of Asia Yachting dedicated exclusively to serving clients in Asia. Launched last week in the lead up to the HAINAN RENDEZ VOUS in China, YPI Asia starts off with two offices – one in Shenzhen, China, the other in Aberdeen, Hong Kong.

“It’s a great mix,” says YPI Group CEO, Bertrand Vogèle. “YPI has almost forty years specialised experience in superyachting. That’s a lot of expertise and know-how invaluable to our Chinese contacts today. Olivier and his team have an amazing local know-how and an acute understanding of what our Asian clients are looking for, what they expect and how they want to do business. Putting the two together ensures our Asian clients receive nothing short of the very best service, advice and know-how right on their doorstep.”

The HAINAN RENDEZ VOUS provided YPI Asia with its first official outing which began with the JV bringing the superb 65-metre custom-built Benetti, AMBROSIA, to China’s exclusive private jet and yacht show. “The event was stunning,” said Bertrand on his return to Monaco. “There were a lot of very interested potential buyers there and our team in YPI Asia were fantastic at looking after our Chinese and Asian guests and clients.”

YPI continues to grow and as part of its on-going commitment to better serve clients wherever they are in the world we welcome sales broker Gregory Gheraia to YPI Brokerage and Candice Christiansen as Yacht Administrator Accountant with our Management Division. Born in South Africa and a graduate from the University of Cape Town, Candice is no stranger to yachting or yacht administration and management.

“I worked with Ocean Independence and then Fraser Yachts for a number of years,” she says. “It was time to move up. Working with YPI gives me the opportunity I was looking for to better use my skills and experience with a team that has a very strong reputation across the industry.” We wish both Candice and Gregory every success in their new posts with YPI.
