2010 has earned itself a prominent place in the annals of YPI as one of the most rewarding in the Group’s almost 40-year history.
With the year opening to the doom and gloom of yet more financial crisis and warnings of ‘double dips’ and exasperated Quantitative Easing, the team at YPI began working on a year that was to welcome no less than 8 new members of staff to the Group including a new Head of YPI Charter in the form of the highly respected Fiona Maureso.
Most of the YPI Yacht Management team were uprooted after almost 37 years bunkered in the Group’s Brighton offices and moved down to the sunnier climes of Monaco to further consolidate YPI’s presence at the heart of European yachting. The Group was present at all the industry’s major events presenting client yachts at the world’s best shows in Cannes, Monaco, Fort Lauderdale and Antigua as well as being invited to speak at no less than 4 international events. Our own invitation-only Super Yacht Owners Summit, in just its 2nd year, more than doubled its attendance on last year with some invited owners also enjoying a pre-Monaco Yacht Show cocktail and visit aboard YPI’s 61.5 metre Amels: SOLEMAR.
It was the year the Group launched a completely re-structured website designed to help visitors better understand what the world of superyachting now has to offer, as well as profiling many of the exclusive yachts and services the Group’s divisions have on offer all over the world. It was the year we launched a new client publication: The Yacht Selection - packed with the very latest new-build and second-hand yachts for sale and charter as well as exclusive insights into the world of Yacht Management and Crew.
2010 was the year YPI sold the first MARY-JEAN then launched her eagerly awaited, ISA-built, 61.7-metre successor: MARY-JEAN II to the applause of many and the broad smiles of one very happy owner.
It was the year our record breaking J-Class LIONHEART was launched, the year the magnificent 49-metre Trinity Yachts’ GLAZE joined our yacht Charter and Brokerage fleets alongside some other ground-breaking yachts such as PERLE BLEUE, SOFICO, SQUALO, KEALOHA and a host of others. It was the year YPI Sailing went from strength to strength. Hot on the heels of WILLIAM TAI being nominated for an Award at this year’s World Super Yacht Awards, KALIKOBASS II was sold and the beautiful VALQUEST joined the fleet. The division launched the sailing yacht ATHOS, the biggest sailing new-build of the year, and then sold one of sailing’s most absolute jewels – Perini Navi’s 53-metre ketch: INDEPENDENCE.
It was the year YPI Crew grew by over 40% on 2009; over 80,000 km was covered by YPI brokers, yacht managers and directors as they focused on creating new business opportunities with clients, partners and suppliers all over the world. It was the year YPI Brokerage not only more than doubled the number of sales recorded in 2009 but went on to close a batch of three amazing deals (INDEPENDENCE and two AMELS yachts: MONTE CARLO and a stunning 54-metre LIMITED EDITION AMELS 177 new-build: HULL 458) over a super-charged period of just 6-weeks.
It was also the year we said goodbye to yacht engineer Pawel Kwiatowski who died tragically in January whilst with his yacht in the British Virgin Islands – our thoughts were with his family then as they are today.
So overall it has been a solid year for all YPI divisions despite the predicted gloom. A number of YPI clients are now the very proud owners of yachts they took advantage of market conditions to buy or have built this year, some sold their yachts for good prices whilst others just carried on chartering as they have done for years or having their yachts managed to maximize savings and increase revenues.
At the time of writing, planning and preparations are well underway to help us deliver even more of the very best results for our clients in 2011 whichever of our services they decide to use.
So it is with a sense of pride (and perhaps relief) that we now thank you for your support and faith in us throughout the year. May the oncoming festive season bring all the gifts you ask of it.
The team at YPI.
