Norangsdalen and Hjorundfjord
Explore beautiful scenery by bike and kayak
Explore what many believe to be the most beautiful valley in Norway. Enjoy the tranquility and scenery of old mountain farms and idyllic waters. Make sure to stop at Lyngstøylvannet, formed in 1908 when a rock landslide caused the river to be absorbed. Today, you can see the remains of the old settlements, the stables and the roads in the water. Lyngstøylvannet is known for its great diving conditions and is considered one of the best freshwater dives in Norway. At the end of the Norangsdalen valley you will find one of the most distinctive hotels in all of Europe, Hotel Union Øye. Enjoy a perfectly cooked two-course lunch in our beautiful dining room or out in the garden. Our chefs use only the best local ingredients to compose the servings of the day and our butler is happy to recommend wine pairings from the hotel’s private wine cellar.
After lunch, your guide will take you kayaking in the fjord of Norangsfjord. Be inspired by the steep mountains including Slogen mountain which is the king of the Alps with a height of 1564m above sea level. Explore the wildlife and eagles in the spectacular fjord, a relaxing activity on the water allowing you to feel at one with nature.
Local tastings at Gurines
Nonsvik Farm is a charming and authentic fjord farm located close to Storfjord Hotel in the fjord village of Glomset. You will be warmly welcomed by the hosts, a friendly couple still living on the farm with a strong passion for organic and sustainable food. They source most of their own food by hunting, fishing and harvesting from the surrounding woods and mountains. Berries, mushrooms, plants and herbs are picked in the garden and areas surrounding the farm and Storfjord Hotel. During your visit to the farm, you will get an insight into the exciting story behind the food, how it’s procured and processed.
After local tastings at the food farm, a visit to Storfjord Hotel is a must. The surrounding woodlands invite you to explore nearby trails and viewpoints overlooking beautiful landscapes. Experience our Lavvo, a big conical tent based on traditional living quarters in Northern Norway. Enjoy the silence and tranquility of nature while resting by the fire. A private dinner at Storfjord Hotel rounds off the day before returning to your yacht.
